Family Office Scaffolding Forum

A private, invite-only educational forum for family members and senior Family Office executives, focused on the non-investment infrastructure that supports the office: people, governance, advisers, technology, cybersecurity, privacy, Secure AI, process, continuity and succession.

What do we mean by Family Office scaffolding?

Family Offices are often discussed through the lens of investments, structures and wealth management. Yet a significant part of a Family Office’s effectiveness depends on the infrastructure around those activities.

Scaffolding is the practical framework around a Family Office: the people, processes, systems, advisers, governance arrangements, technology, information practices and risk controls that help it operate effectively without becoming bloated, overbuilt or misaligned. It is the connective tissue that supports the family and the office over time.

The non-investment infrastructure of a Family Office

Every Family Office is different, but many face similar questions outside the investment portfolio. Who owns key decisions? How are advisers coordinated? How is sensitive information protected? Which systems are relied upon? How does the office remain resilient when people, technology or circumstances change? How should AI be adopted? What happens when knowledge sits with one person or one provider?

These issues are rarely solved by a single product or professional discipline. They sit across governance, people, process, technology and trusted relationships. The Family Office Scaffolding Forum creates space for Family Offices to examine them together: sharing what is working, what is not and where gaps are emerging.

A private, invite-only educational forum

The Family Office Scaffolding Forum is a private, invite-only educational event. Attendance is deliberately capped at 20 Family Offices and focused on family members and senior executives who carry responsibility for the practical infrastructure and connective tissue of the office.

Its value comes from candid, in-person discussion between peers dealing with similar operating realities. The Forum is not a sales event: there are no sales pitches, product promotions or conventional vendor presentations. It provides a confidential setting in which Family Offices can examine issues that cross professional boundaries without being directed towards a commercial solution.

How the Forum began

The Family Office Scaffolding Forum was co-founded by Shaun Parkin and Mark O’Malley to create a small, practical and peer-led environment for Family Offices to explore the non-investment challenges that shape how an office operates.

The Forum is held in Perth, Western Australia; Melbourne, Victoria; and Sydney, New South Wales. Each Forum is built around a focused theme and brings relevant experience into the room to support education and discussion.

The purpose is to help participants consider the structures around their core teams and learn from peers facing similar questions—not to prescribe a single model for every family.

Technology as part of the wider scaffolding

Technology is only one component of Family Office scaffolding, but it increasingly connects many others. Identity affects adviser access. Data governance affects AI. Cybersecurity affects trust and continuity. Microsoft 365 permissions affect information exposure. Business continuity depends on people, systems and providers working together.

DSC’s role in the Family Office ecosystem is therefore broader than conventional IT support. We help Family Offices consider technology, cybersecurity, data protection and Secure AI as part of the operating framework that supports the family.

A stronger Family Office is built on more than investments

People, governance, advisers, systems, cybersecurity, privacy, technology, AI and continuity all form part of the scaffolding that supports a Family Office over time.
